Elizabeth Kubler-Ross died
    #3054376 - 08/26/04 06:54 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

I don't know how many of you guys heard of her. She has had a profound effect on the world attitude and treatment of the terminally ill. She defined the psychological stages the terminally ill pass through, as well, and studied the dying process and wrote over 20 books on the subject. She was also the founder of hospice.

That figures...you call attention to a compassionate person who had a profound effect on humanity, in a good way, and you get rude, smart ass remarks like that one. To be rude to me is one thing, but don't belittle some one who made such a positive impact on our world.

This grieves me. I taught Kubler Ross's stages of dying in the early 80's in Human Development classes at the University of Maryland. She was a pioneer in 'Thanatology.' I do not want to die in a hospital under the control of physicians like my Mother did. The physician had security keep me out of the room until I called off the Code Blue to let her die with dignity. Ross wanted the death process recognized as a spiritual event (like birth, for that matter), NOT a medical crisis. I'd like to die in my meditation room with the large window that lets in the sky and the coconut palms that I planted, seated on the round, Indian print carpet, while on an Entheogen. She was very important in this medical-legal-run machine-society.

What the hell is your problem? I misread the post. You originally told me to 'google' it, by the way. You are an angry individual. 'Google it' is a far leap from what you said after you edited it. Out with it already, what's your beef with me dude.

Knowing what I know about her, I'm betting she died a good death.

My original major in college (first run through I made 5 semesters before giving it up) was Psychology. I learned about her viewpoint there. I read her book "On Death and Dying" and was profoundly affected by it. Reading of her death hit me a funny way. The feelings it generated grew as the day continued and left me feeling sort of washed out. I don't know why...I didn't know her. Oh yeah, dying while under the influence of an entheogen is not a bad idea. I once read a study on terminal patients who were given LSD in their last hours and it was found to increase clarity of mind and reduce pain drastically while fostering a feeling of acceptance. I hope I get to give that a go myself.

She will be missed.

Ross wanted the death process recognized as a spiritual event (like birth, for that matter), NOT a medical crisis

I wish more people would treat it that way. Thanks to people like her, more will.
