BmT - Bankrupt man's Terrarium

BmT - Bankrupt Man's Terrarium

You may remember (if you've been reading 'Steve's first time Grow Log') that I had 2 cakes that had too much water in them. One of the cakes I burried in the garden, but the other one, I took the top half out and tried to birth it. With the remaining half, still in the bottom of the jar, I constructed the BmT.

To construct the BmT you will need - 1 jar with half a cake in it
- 1 freezer bag

All you do is put the freezer bag over the opened jar. Simple.

When I did this, I had no intention of it really doing anything, but did it more because I couldn't bring myself to throw the cake away. It seems to be working though, and I have had no contams. Here are some pics.

Notice the pin in the bottom picture. This is the first of all my cakes to pin.

Yeah hehe...good job. Hope it does well. So the jar is just sitting opened in a bag, right? I would think once you have some pins, just open it once a day to mist and open a few times a day to fan a bit.

To be honest, I'm not even gonna bother doing that. I'm just gonna let it be and see what happens. I do open everynow and then for air exchange, and I put water in it a few times and poured it back out after a few hours.

I would put a rubber band over that bag to seal it, that way there will be no humidity escaping (you won't need to mist if its sealed, it will be uber humid in there).

You may want to put some dark tape or tin foinl around the bottom to get your fruits to grow upwards....good luck!

Not completely new, I've done this too as a 'quarentine' for jars I didn't want to throw but didn't want to keep in my grow chamber.

P.S. I also wrap the bottom of the jars in foil to keep light out, and put a rubber band/clean hair tie type thing around the bag to keep it sealed more tightly.

This is definitely not a new tek! It's been around for awhile now over at The Nook and BTW It works good enough for the lazyman who doesn't mind poor yields :frown:

I upgraded my terrarium now. I put an elastic band round it to make the BmT deluxe.

I actually will work.
Here a photo from a girlfriends window sill:

Plain softwood sawdust with WBS. Not a good substrate for cubensis but it worked anyway! Substrate volume was 500ml. CO2 can leave the "growpot" through the opening you will discover.
If you replace the teapot with a plastic bag like you did, it really is a bankrupt mans terrarium.
Keep on growing
