Manganese Oxides and Hallucinations
    #3050424 - 08/25/04 10:33 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Hey guys. The other day, I was reading an old art history textbook and it was discussing a method used by ancient peoples to blow images on to cave walls by exhaling minerals such as manganese dioxide and others. It also had mentioned something about such substances causing hallucinations. Has anyone heard of this?

The method described was where they would put it in their mouths, put a hand up on the cave wall, and exhale this stuff all around the hand making a perfect handprint. The pics were pretty cool looking too.

Agreed. But the powder never made it to the lungs, it was kept in the mouth and blown out. kinda like just spraying water all over the place, you dont really inhale it.
