Subbs? Complete w/ crappy pics
    #3050408 - 08/25/04 10:29 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

I know it's late in the season for these, but I found six possible Panaeolus subbalteatus growing from dung in my neighbors horse pasture.

Cap: 1-2 cm, bell-shaped, light brown, cracked, definitely sun-bleached (growing in open pasture)
Gills: black to dark brown, adnate-adnexed close
Stem: 3-5 cm, reddish-brown
Spores: black (seems jet black to me)

One of the 'shrooms dropped spores on another, and they looked black, but I took a print to be sure. Whaddaya think?

Not subbs, I couldn't tell you exactly what they are though.

Okay, just checking. I thought maybe the striped appearance of subbs/foens would've faded from being in the sun so much.

they do, pan subbs go more yellow to white often blackened with spores by this point.

panaeolus shinctrinus ( the ones you have) gets more "smooth silver'
