about the damp verm. do i need to sterilize it first and is it ok to put the cakes directly on it?

Mine are doing that also. My temp/humid is 72/91-97. There are only two spots that are blue and there is no pinning. They've been in the tank for 8 days. Should I mist the cake directly or mist the perlite?
