Brown Shrooms?

My Friend has 7 cakes growing in a PMP right now, and they seem to be doing pretty well, except on one cake, the shrooms have kinda a brownish color to them? and on another cake, some of the shrooms seemed to have aborted as the cap is growing fairly dark, and it seems as if the cap is about ready to open, and they are just barely a couple of days old.
what should My Friend do? wait and see what happens? if something is wrong, what could be the issue?
if you want anymore info, just ask ill get the info from him

When I have brown streaks in the shrooms and alot of aborts I find the problem to be too much water Wether it is too moist cakes or to much misting.
But it is always hard to say exactly what is going on.

yea they are kinda brownish streaks. My Friend hasnt been misting, misted before he put the cakes in, and thats about it.
My Friend was guessing it might be to poor of an air exchange. Since he put holes near the top of the Fruiting chamber, and the CO2 is heavy, maybe the CO2 isnt escaping? it isnt unimaginable, but I feel this is unlikely.

I wouldn't worry to much about the brown streaks.
Co2 is heavier than air so I think without several fannings each day you are very likly having Co2 building up in your chamber.Holes on the top are not enough.
Fanning out 2-5 times a day is absoultey nessary.

Well My friend had a PMP running pumping air into the fruiting chamber, so no fanning should be nessaccary. the fruiting chamber is a 66 gal tot, with geolite about a 3rd of the way up, so should be about 40 gals of "space". the air pump is rated for 40-60 gal aquariums, so this should be plenty of air?

sounds like the poor air exchange is exactly the problem. mushrooms wont grow in their own waste. try melting or drilling some holes near or below the level of the cakes. the brown streaks are due to excessive water but it wont effect the shrooms adversly just fan them a bit mor often. if you opern the terrarium once or twice a day it will be fine. pull orff the aborts and dunk your cakes. if you look at my avatar to the left you'll see cakes fruiting. these cakes had the same problem you are describing. the picture was taken a few days after i corrected the air exchange. i do about 12-1500 cakes at once so i'm sort of like a pro at it.

yes i read the thread and nobody gave him enough info. in my opininion airpumps are over rated. a small comuter fan works much more efficiently if you know how to set it up correctly. i leave you with that...

Wow, 1500, you must have like 125 pressure cookers going. Nice work!

I really hope your kidding. At 30 seconds a jar youd be knocking em up for nealry 2 hours! Your an fool if you waste your time on doing 200 jar batches when you can do 20-30 spawn bags or 1/8 that and pasturize some straw + manure. But thats 80-100 lbs of grain!
Id like to see a pic of your incubators and fruiting chambers.

sorry i'm not showing any pics of any of my terrariums. listen, about the fool comment, i have extensive knowledge and experience of bulk substrates and spawning and all that jazz O.K.. however i have to go with what i have seen with my own eyes and cakes work really good if you do it how i do. i did some experiments where i used exactly the same amount of substrate, same mycelium, same everything exept that the fruiting conditions were modified for casings and my cakes out did them all. i took a half pint cake once and cut it into a 1\4 cake and those 1\4's each yeilded the same as regular half pint. the thing about the cakes it seems is that if one goes bad you can chunk it, with a casing you can try to kill it or whatever but inevitably it's gonna go bad. all that said, and i could prove it ,if i was willing to show the numbers i think you would agree that the yeilds are larger and more consistant. this forum is for home cultivators doing small grows so doing tons of bulk substrates or casings isn't a part of their game. tell me what your yeild is from lets say 12quarts of birdseed or 12 spawnbags and bet i can yeild more weight from the same amount of substrate(as cakes)with less contamination!!!!! in a shorter time frame....

i'm not a know it all but i can teach some of the people here some things that i discovered purely by experimentaion that i havent seen anyone here or on any other forum doing. fuck it sounds like all of you have shit figured out so well so why are so many people having so many problems and having to ask so many basic questions?? tell me that? fuck it i'll keep my knowledge to myself. by the way i sent you a PM just disregard it i don't like the attitude. learn how to spell since you,"now" so much.
