Help with pinheads
    #3049148 - 08/25/04 03:44 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

I recently purchased a mushroom grow kit, i have followed the instructions perfectly and am having alot of growth on the casing which is not contaminated, but i am noticing pinheads forming but it seems they have no caps, or at least not yet, i am wondering if this is normal as this is my first time growing,

Thanks

very normal, if they are indeed hyphal knots the pin heads will apear after they have been phototropically shocked (small brownish redish dot) give em a lil more light and ull see more of the primordias cap

Caps are the last thing to come... shrooms look more like penises than mushrooms until about 12 hours before the veil breaks.

u can see the cap well before the 12 hour countdown, u should be able to see the cap (not in full size) a few days after the hyphal knots begin stretching upward (phototropic stretching)

They change from white to brownish tan when they become pins. Very much like a white guy's penis... really... only smaller... I hope.

Very important for best results USE ALL PINNING TRIGGERS AT ONCE!!! Light, fresh air exchanges, AND temp drop!! Light is but just one, it is the coincidence of all three parameters that makes for the best pinsets! WORD!!!

yes fresh air, temp drop and light are all needed for a good pinset, but he was wondering why the cap hadnt apeared, not why his pinset sucked.

Light is not the only reason shroomies mature they need transpiration to this is very important to getting the "red dots" to mature. Red dots=maturing shrooms pinning triggers are also BTW parameters for growth/cropping

the hyphal nots can have as much moisture/air as they want but without light there will be no cap, i have had numerous experiments with complete absence of light and the hyphal nots will only swell and become sphereical with no direction (capless)

Hi Redout,
It's my first time growing too - also from a grow kit. I'd say it took about 5 (ish) days before I saw pins. Watch out though, they seem to stay pretty small for a while, then get little caps then 'bang' fully grown almost overnight! I've had one good harvest from the kit so far (cheers to everyone who answered my previous questions - being a newbie to mushrooms I appreciate all the advise I can get)- just waiting for the kit to start pinning again.
Good luck and ENJOY!

That is fine but what are you telling him? He needs the pins to mature and he needs ALL three parameters not just light this was my point  your point is taken TY
