Same strain different colors
    #3048336 - 08/25/04 01:29 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

I planted some B+ Strain spores a week ago (I used moe's outdoor growing technique) and already theres mycelium all over and theres lots of tiny little mushrooms about 2 cm in height popping up but the weird thing is some of them have white caps and others have black. I got the manure from a store but the hay I found. Would it be possible that both black and white shrooms are psilocybe or would the black ones have came from the hay?

Both are nearly identical in size and shape.

Ill send some pictures when I get my camera fixed.

If the cap is fully dark it may have aborted.

Pin caps (top) go really dark when they stop growing and abort.

What would cause them to abort?

Misting pins will cause aborts ...Try to not mist directly when pins are just showing...we need a pic really

I find aborts on outdoor grows to be rare compared to indoors. Outdoors they will open up and mature into tiny little mushies, but indoors they seem to abort consistantly in the typical fashion. I still have yet to find out a logical explanation to why this happens...

And, those do not look like Ps. Cubensis to me either. Outdoors you should be familiar with what you are growing. An unknown mushroom could make you very ill in case you didn't know... Check for bruising blue , best ID there is for Cubensis outdoors if you have never seen them before...

IME lightly misting cakes/casings have never lead to aborts and I'm talking alot of casings! I never mist during pinsetting as that has lead to much poorer pinsets (commonsense.) In nature aborts are rare even after days of hard rain. Some strains produce a higher number of aborts than others as I have noticed also So I for one haven't seen and abort increase with misting PROPERLY  knock on wood!

Are you saturating the casing maybe? Are your parameters optimum? Have ya noticed this with all your strains?

You gotta really hold the mister back and squeeze it hard so a fine fine mist comes out and falls over the casing. Seems to not be a problem for my pins.

Please don't tell me you use a squeeze type sprayer still? If by some slim chance your still back in the olden days  you should really check out a cheap (7-8 bucks) pumpup type sprayer they when adjusted just right put out a heavy fog so fine that one could even spray during pinsetting almost (never recommended) but that good!
This is one place where spending that extra 4 bucks will change your life forever!!!!
