Reshi
    #3047233 - 08/25/04 03:27 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Ok I have been interested in this mushroom for years, as I keep coming across it in my research into the medical uses of herbs , mushrooms etc

I dont even know where to start, when it comes to cubes even bulk tubs are simple to me(I understand how it all works) , but for someone that has no knowledge of  Reshi , should I make cakes??
(and how does someone grow large ammount of edibles like reshi??)
and what do they eat???

And where can I get spores(money is tight, I a moving into a new aparment on BORROWED money, thats how "tight" :frown: , so CHEAP prints or trade are IDEAL)

What conditions do Reshis need???

are the fruiting , incubation, times etc VERY different(compared to cubes)

what about temps????

And lastly, what are IN GENERAL, some of the easier edibles to grow, and which ones are harder to grow.

Thanks

if you are serious about cultivating any sort of edible mushroom i would highly recommend buying paul stamet's Growing Gourmet and medicinal mushrooms.

for me it has been the best source of information on all growth parameters of all edible/gourmet mushrooms i have been interested in

I would get the book if I could, but as I said......."money is tight, I a moving into a new aparment on BORROWED money, thats how "tight" , so CHEAP prints or trades are IDEAL"

But I will check the library.

Reishi can be cultivated much like shiitake on logs. The difference being that the logs are buried.

Considering that Reishi cultures are legal you'd do yourself a service to trade for an agar wedge or culture syringe or colonized dowels as opposed to a spore print.

Try doing at least a cursory search on this site and on a search engine. The information you seek is readily available in redundancy ad nauseum.

Go hang out at borders or barnes and nobles... they both carry the mushroom cultivator... take you awhile to finish though...

FYI, Reishi is not in TMC....

I suggest you find GGMM, it has multiple methods for growing Reishi. But to make a long story short, it is usually grown commercially on logs or plastic bags with supplemented wood based substrates. I will list the growing conditions here:

Spawn run: 70-80F
Primordia (Antler): 65-75F, 95-100% Rh, CO2 20,000-40,000 PPM
Primordia (conk): 70-80F, 95-100% Rh, CO2 2,000-5,000 PPM
Fruitbody: 70-80F, 90-95% Rh, CO2 <2,000 PPM

http://www.sacredshrooms.org/forums/show...;o=&fpart=1 is a link to the growth parameters of reishi.
But when you do a search at the shroomery you will find a lot of stuff.

Here are a couple links you may be interested from someone who grew them on cakes:

(Maybe someone should copy the threads to here, as the people from that site seem to move threads around alot causing the ones here to go dead.)
