I've read that you should put peroxide in after there is some mycelium growth. Is this necessary?

no and I think unless you were going to draw the water in a syringe it is a bad idea to open it at all. you would just be adding contams... If its not contammed the peroxide isnt needed anyhow, if it is contammed it is too late.

I only use peroxide to rinse my mushie before I macerate from inside the stipe. Do what hippie says and tear it apart, only using your sterile instrument to take a piece that had no contact with the outside. This is what I do and I havent had any problems. Glovebox of course.

sad part is that most of the ones who post here seem to be children, it seems almost every post has a question with a bullshit answer
