WBS jars slowing colonization
    #3044282 - 08/24/04 02:57 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

I have 2 quart jars of WBS that i spawned doing a g2g

for the first few days they seemed to be ripping through the birdseed and colonizing like mad. Over the past few days it seems as though they have slowed down considerably. I have shaken them and it still seems as though they have slowed down and are barely doing shit.

it almost looks like they are getting wetter as well. with what appears to be water between the seed and the jar. they don't smell funky though so i dunno.

suggestions?

Sounds like you may have some bateria growing in there

I have found also with a violent shaking it can sometimes fuck it up.It can take upto 3-4 days for a recovery. You won't see any new growth for atleast 36 hours anyway.

When I have really shook it up, I got contaim's. If it is growing like mad leave it. Once the myc. is spreading thru the birdseed it will only be a few more days. And shaking can do more harm then good.

. When I do pint jars I don't shake them at all.
Goodluck

Also, should the myc stay in big balls when shaken or break up?

its growing big clumps of seeds/myc in the jar and when i did shake them they didnt break up just stayed in balls

is there anything you can add to the mix to kill the bacteria or is it a lost cause?

Sounds like a lost cause. You must have transfered some bacteria during the grain to grain transfer.

yeah the jars smell rather strong this morning kind of like what i would imagine wet, old bird seed to smell like

doesnt smell sweet or like rotten fruit but i moved them to their own room all the same.

Sounds like garbage pile to me

It doesn't sound fully hopeless to me. I would be patient, see how it goes. If you are saying they don't smell then maybe there is no bacteria in there. If you shook them up, as has been said they make take some time to recover from it.

they appear to be going back to colonizing. I moved them into another room in a cabinet and upon opening i don't smell anything anymore.

there was a pan of casing in there i think may have been the culprit. However, now that i have seperated everything in an effort to find the bringer of smell I don't smell anything.

Mayhaps having a bunch of things in one tub incubating was simply a naturally occuring smell it just built up being inside a closed container.

crazy little jars. hooray for myc!

i use a karo injection not G2G But i shake after injection then i DONT look at them for 4-5 day, by then u should see good growth. I roll the jars in my hand so that the seed gets mixed up. MY clumps dont break up much at all. After 2-3 more days i see alot of growth useing this method !

Note: I have found it is best NOT TOO OPEN the tub at all after the roll method ! seems to me the MYC is shy !
