The Founding Fathers of America
    #3036569 - 08/22/04 02:49 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

If we could resurrect the people who were instrumental in
creating and nurturing the American system of government(Jefferson,
Washington, Madison, etc...), what do you think their opinions on
today's American government and society would be? What would their
criticisms and suggestions be?

I think the first course of action would be to walk over to Abraham Lincoln, who was also presumably resurected, and beat the living shit out of him over and over. They would do this until he was within an inch of his life, have him nursed back to health, then repeat ad infinitum for virtually dissolving the federalized system of government that was the backbone of American liberty. The next step would be a bit too radical for eloquent and proper gentlemen such as Washington, Madison, and Jefferson. They would call the radical Samuel Adams over and instruct him to flip polio-stricken Franklin Delano Roosevelt's wheelchair, then smash the man in his face with said wheelchair. That should be a nice wake-up call to America.

In truth, they would find the America of today absolutely revolting and I imagine they would be furious at the politicians that perpetrated America's downfall, bewildered at the lack of an uprising by the American populace, and dissapointed in themselves for creating an imperfect Constitution that, due to a lack of specificity in certain areas(general welfare, perhaps 2nd amendment), had been interpreted overtime by a multitude of traitors to the American Republic to mean whatever it is they wish. Call me partisan but I imagine their specific criticisms of government would be very similar to the more hardcore factions of the American Libertarian movement. Shame they won't be resurrected, despite the general political ignorance of Americans today I think men like Jefferson and Madison could get the point across to all Americans that where we are today is almost diametrically opposed to what this country was supposed to be.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers

I don't think all of them would do this. Remember that there were disagreements then as now about what the government should look like. I can't picture Alexander Hamilton and some of the other members of the Federalist party being too mad at Lincoln.

Was specifically referring to Washington, Madison, Jefferson.

Hamilton was a douche IMO.

I'm sure the founders would be thrilled to see that the same powers that be they broke away from(save "king" George) have taken over once again.
