go to a command prompt and type "man ifconfig" then read up on setting up routing with ipchains if you need to set up routing at all.

It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis

still can't make it connect. i've tried configuring things with the ifconfig and route commands, and also by editting or creating certain configuration files. still no go.
it's a cable connection via an ethernet card. i'm running XP on an old pentium 3 PC over the connection right now. i can even pop in a live knoppix distro CD on this computer, boot into linux from the CD, and it connects to the internet just fine. i don't have to touch a thing.
then when i hook up my newer PC, which is running a knoppix hard drive install, it doesn't go. (even when i boot from the live CD, and DHCP is used during the boot sequence, i cannot connect with that box).
why one computer and not the other?
