Lobsters, Blewits, and Sacred Gyms

Mushroom season is rockin this year.
This is today's collection.
- These Blewits are full of bugs, so I will not be eating them, but I did find two pristine specimens yesterday that I tried; they were delicious. I think you all might enjoy this photo.
-The lobsters are huge! I can't wait for dinner tommorow; does anybody know a good recipe for these?
The Sacred Blue Gym
Half of the ones in the top photo were picked in West Virginia yesterday; they are already showing blue tones. Here are a few habitat photos from today's hunt in Ohio.
This one was growing from under a rotten log. As you can see, the little one at the top is actually fruiting inside the rotten wood.
Peace, Love, and shroomyness to all.

Man, I always wanted to find the Lobsters... They taste sooooooo good. I just usually stir fry them. I've only had them dehydrated..and they are one of my favorites. ... Its such an interesting fungus.
As for the others...they look great.
The blewits look very different from the ones I find here in California though!

All hail shroomydan
Can't remember what website I got this from so I'll twist the language a bit, but... Lobster Mushroom Frittata
1oz. Lobster mushrooms 1/2 cup milk 1/4 cup chopped parsley 1/4 tsp black pepper 4 oz. feta cheese, crumbled 3 tbs. butter 1/2 cup chopped onion 1/2 tsp. salt 6 eggs
Put your lobster mushrooms in a bowl and pour heated milk over them- let sit for one hour. Lightly saute your onions in the butter. Beat the eggs into the lobster/milk mix and then add onions and remaining ingredients. Heat 2 tbs. butter in a large, ovenproof skillet over medium high heat, and, when hot, put mix in and cook until bottom is set. Take cooked mix off heat and place under preheated broiler to brown the top. Awesome taste. Hope you like it shroomydan!

The gills do seem to suggest Laccaria amethystina, but the large size rules them out. Arora says that Laccaria amethystina caps should be 2-4 cm wide; The largest specimen above was over 10 cm wide. If they are Laccaria, then the large size keys them out as L. ochropurpurea. I think they look like a broad gilled variety of blewits, which are highly variable in appearance. Both species in question are edible; the ones in the photos were quite tasty but a little tough.
What do you think?

i think laccaria. i pick the exact same ones myself. ochropurpurea is possible i suppose, though i have found that amethestina grows quite large at times.

The lobsters were growing on a hillside in eastern Ohio, about twentyfive yards up from a small stream, and about a hundred yards east of my favorite Gym log.

Thanks Mitchnast. Those laccarias are pretty tasty and they are becoming quite abundant. I think I'll make a pie from them this year.
