A caution to Pressure Cookers, they can burn!
    #3036973 - 08/22/04 07:29 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Well, dont do like i did.  Dont try to pressurecook late at night, bad idea

After checking the time about 2:30am last night i noticed i had about 20min left until it was time to cut the fire, so i layed on the couch and watched tv.

I woke up at about 7am.  The whole house was filled with smoke, and the pc was on meltdown.  The plastic relief valve was totally gone, the housewrap lids were completely melted away, the corn kernals were black bb's, everything in the pc that wasnt metal was melted down and then burned away while i was sleeping.  And the damn smoke alrams that always go off while making toast didnt even sound

Well, i was very surprised it never caught fire, but my house still smels like it was.  I lost 5 jars and one cheapo $40 pc.  It wass the Mantra 6qt from Target, it sucks dont buy one, it didnt make very much pressure anyway.

So now i went to walmart and picked up an 8qt Mirro for $40, this is much better.  3 pressure settings, and up to 15psi.  I can tell just by the way it sounds it has a lot more pressure than the target brand.

Also replenished my jars.

So just be careful, SET A TIMER! when you pc, shit can get trippy

They wont blow up, the seal will pop before that will happen.

the other night I fell asleep and I had an alarm set and everything...... Cooked the shit out of 4 pints and melted a syringe. I caught it just in time though the pc is fine and the seals are still good. Its a mirro I got at wallys, its ok but goddamn I would have spent a little more and got the one with the guage if I new it.

The Mirro 8qt is $40 and can hold 6 pint jars, regular lid. 5 wide-mouth pints.

The seals are very tough, mine didnt even melt during that whole thing. Its actually in good shape, i think it must be vulcanized.

the new one is very nice, seems to be a heck of a lot more durable.

Also, when i switched cookers i noticed it took about half the time to soften the popcorn. The batch i have now is almost too soft.
