B+ Pin to Fruitbody Times
    #3036753 - 08/22/04 04:20 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

On average how long has it taken any of you for your B+ to mature from the pins to fruitbodies? If anyone can remember back in the day when they grew B+ that is

I am probably one of the few people that are trying to use the
Hydra-Pod by www.myco-tek.com have you or anyone ever heard of the quality of this setup? cause my B+ are growing, not aborting or anything but they are growing so slow, for example it took on of the pins 5 days to get almost 1 inch long!

I had an idea of switching out the Geolite that came with the kit and using perlite for better humidity control, I live in a very dry area

Geolite will work better then perilite if you have the airstones under it.

I dunked for about 12 hours yesterday because I thought the cake had dried out, I did not roll it afterwards, I have noticed a drastic improvement on the amout of pins but they still seem like they are growing at the same rate, extremely slow. Possiblitity that I need to fiddle some more with the air exchange rate on the air pump that is feeding the air under the Geolite?

I can take some pics if it would help any....

as far as the air supply its a black moldible tube that has like 50 pin size holes in it that allow the air to disperse through the geolite, that should be sufficient right?

see thats about what I expected but I am about fed up with B+, I might as well throw the cake away and just wait for my cambodian cakes to finish colonizing...

I just felt the cake and it feels dry already, 24 hours after dunking the cake, that Hydra-Pod doesnt keep the humidity worth crap, looks like I wasted alot of money on it, I guess there is another form of proof that you dont always get what you pay for!

That looks exactly like mine at 3 or 4 days man, same strain. Another cake has like 5 or 6 smaller pins starting as of this morning. However, the other 8 have next to none. Very slow like u said. I was thinking my temp might be a little to high? In the chamber its about 77-80 degrees. Would lower temps improve fruiting?

Your problem is the air dispersion under your hydroton...try going to wal-mart and purchasing (ack!) two of the long bubblers (14" i believe) and a dual output pump. Put it all together, make sure there is at least 1" of hydroton on top of the bubblers, then fill the water at least 1/2" over the top of the bubblers (and 1/2" under your cakes, pretty much).

This maintains 100%+ RH...a little too wet, as it condenses horribly. More hydroton over the bubblers would help the condensation, but hydroton is precious and hard to get. 2" should suffice.

Don't forget H2O2!

Oh...you should expect fruit within 3-4 days of pinning. 8 days is way too long.

DrOud.... that is how i have it set up but the way the Hydra-Pod book was telling me to ajust the air valve at the top of the dome I think is way to open, and it told me to also have the air pump at max air flow, wich basically was not keeping any humidity in the dome and nothing but pure oxygen.... However i didnt try the H202 so I am going to try putting some in the water with the Geolite...

Thanks a million!!

don't knock b+, its an excelllent strain. get your growth parameters right and have some PATIENCE (i know its hard) and those babies will fruit away. give casing a try too.
