Anywhere from 3-7 grams is what I have read and been told.I'm sure some people here have gotten better yields though....like maybe Magash...

do you get better yields if you use a casing method?

I think it usually doubles it... could be wrong though.

As for spores, it really doesn't matter. But most would suggest Puerto Rican, Golden Teacher, B+, or some others.

Forget cakes and concentrate on grain/bulk casings.

Cakes take a hell of a lot longer to colonize, are more prone to contams due to the colonization period and give a shitty yield.

I'm surprised so many people on this board still use them

so many people still use cakes because that is what is in the "basic cultivation tek" area. I think it needs to be updated with a rye or wbs tech

Cakes don't take longer to colonize if prepared correctly and are less prone to contamination than grain jars. They can be prepared without the use of a pressure cooker.

The yield is smaller than if you do bulk amounts of grain or straw/compost/dung, but for a newbie to get him started cakes are just fine.

To reiterate cakes DO NOT take long if done right.
They are NOT more likely to contam, they are less likely.
People use them here as a solid foundation for more advanced teks.
Yield is not a factor a newbie should be concerned with only success.
Cakes can be used to do casings when the person wants to try a different tek and makes for good solid learning.

I agree that cakes are good. I never used them, I jumped right into rye and I think that if you feel confident enough you should skip cakes but I think they are a needed part of the process for some. And can be handy in other certain situations. I'll do some someday I'm sure just for fun.

6-15 grams

But with proper a dunk and roll combined with more dunkings between flushes and mabet one other rolling.

15-25 grams is more like it
A few good cakes will push out 28 grams.

I followed your PF Tek for simple minds to the T Anno

No offence but I think BRF is a sub-standard substrate.

Well you have now

I do things a bit different

I do a dunk roll between every flush

I also do 2 rolls after the first dunk. That is, I wait until the Myc. starts to poke thru then spray them down till wet and roll'em again. Sometimes I might do this a third time before the first pins.

The caks end up looking like SOFTBALLS cool

They fruit heavly. But even with a normal dunk and roll I average about 18 grams a cake DRY.. So Mabey I have a fungus thumb :tongue2:

Anyone with experience knows BRF is sub-standard because it's a diluted substrate whole grains kick ass as well as other bulk substrates, Agreed
Fucknuckle an OZ. off one cake? Sounds like your saying it's a half pint cake at that? Hell there is not even close to an OZ. of brown rice in a half pint cake. I'd say you broke some kind of world class record!!! WTG

Actully you are right I do use full pint jars. It has been so long since I swithched I forgot that most everyone else uses Half pints. but, I am sure If I went back to those. With the tek I use doing muti. Dunk and rolls before first flush almost double the first 2-3 flushes. So I would say probley 12-15v grams per half pint jars is more like it.

I all ready removed my foot from mouth LOL
