Growing Amanita muscaria in a greenhouse
    #3033109 - 08/21/04 05:25 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Hi!
Iam quite new here, but the reason i signed up here was becuz i was looking for ppl that have tried grow amanita muscaria in a greenhouse, my idea is to take a small tree and chop it off and then take the roots and the litle piece of tree stuck on to it and place it in greenhouse where u burry everything down in the soil and place some spores near the roots, some one who got comments? someone who have tried cultivating Amanita muscaria?

(hope my text make sense, my english isnt so good)

Cheers // XdaC

first problem i see is that A. muscaria is a cool weather mushroom, so a greenhouse may actually stunt fruiting.  Plus, i believe the mycelium needs a living host tree to parasitize, and certain kinds of trees at that(Birch for example).  If you can get some kind of spawn medium your chances improve as starting with straight spores does not return good results, if any at all.  Hope this aint to much of a bummer, good luck!

AM seem to grow adjacent to many types of wood poplar and conifers as well as birch. Your best bet would be to obtain mycelium and use that as your innoculant as mycomancer suggested. I personally haven't meet any one who has cultivated this extremely strong shroom. It's effects are wide spread number one making it difficult to dose accurately and number two it can be one hell of a hell bent trip from what I heard peeps say that have used it, I would not recommend it at all. BTW Welcome to the Shroomery and GL

AM is a mychorrhizal fungi. It must grow in conjunction with a living tree. You can find it in the wild easily, but I know of nobody who has succeeded in cultivating it.

I've heard dubious reports of success. the process involved dipping the root balls of saplings in AM liquid mycelia and then planting the tree. i say dubious because i certainly don't remember the source. IIRC it took about 3 years to see fruits.

Check out posts by a guy by the name of Ed dunkel over at www.shaman-australis.com forums

He succeded using a spore solution onto Pine or Birch (cant remmeber which)

For Culture Media with Amanita my refernce books say

Amanita - Gamborg, MMN, PACH

and that the genus can be cultured. Whether or not muscaria is inclusive i dont know.It needs a host though

If you are serious i can email you a table with the formula specs and some other pages of a cool book all about growing mycorrhizals

edit: thats right forgot this function..
