The Mushroom Cultivator glossary defines overlay as "A condition of the casing where mycelium has been allowed to completely cover the surface."

That looks pretty close to overlay to me.

Not at all I see knotting everywhere Overlay doesn't knot, Stroma is a vegetive growth not generative and is what overlay is made of. By the looks of that casing you should have initiated pinning 4-5 days ago at least. IMO  Now cover and permeate are two seperate things and those do look like they could have been initiated sooner for sure. Heres a pic of a casing fully permeated.

That's how EVERY casing I have done* looks prior to pinning. The myc does grow up through the casing, just not 100% colonizing of it. Cool that sucker down to the low 60's tonight, and you should get some pin action in 3-4 days.

*Except that one seems to have a lot of condensate on the exposed mycelia.

If you have to ask, it is not overlay.

An overlayed casing is PURE white... like a pf cake.

My grow kit looks like that in the corners only. There is a small pin on one side, and one in the middle. I'll check them in a few hours in the morning to see if any more came up.

What's a good way to cool an air filtered bag that is sitting in an aquarium? Fan?

Cased it 3 days ago or initiated pinning? Either the casing is way to thin or he lost track of time either way initiation should be sooner still looks like it will produce to me just fine  Tell your friend GL and don't fuck it up we want picks!!!!

It usually takes three days for a temp drop to make pins. Drop temps monday night, thursday you may find tiny pins all over.

He may needed to have initiated sooner but for now he can wait, patience is a virtue  remember. If this does overlay he can scratch and recase and initiate immediately and hopefully get better results. GL and give it time!
