Newb Casing Question RE: patching
    #3027624 - 08/20/04 08:18 AM (19 years, 7 months ago)

Hola, everyone.
Been lurking about and I'm proud to say I have my first casing colonizing. I checked it out this morn and there are some spots of mycellium poking through; they're pretty evenly dispersed. Should I patch or initiate pinning.
Cheers!

Yes, patch indeed so you can get an even pin set.

If it's coming through pretty evenly then you don't need to patch! Patching is for early break throughs only :wink:You'll just be wasting time get that mofo initiated and you'll be harvesting sooner

Good call hyphae.... patching is for just that... patching "patches" of early mycelia breaktthrough. :yesnod:

Thanks, all. I wasn't sure what would be deemed early patches but I believe that's what I had a case of, so I patched.

how does patching work, exactly? I have mycelium coming up in the corners, some edges, and a few spots in the middle. Would that need patching?

That could use patching. What patching does is uniformly covers the casing with pins so you don't get early volunteers which WILL take the energy away from the flush as a whole resulting in a poor flush although the second flush will be considerably better both flushes can be as good. Tip: If ya do get a couple early birds pic them right away (sacrifice them) and your flush will thank you with a much better yield
