While we are on the topic, I innoculated 2 of the bags with 5cc's of spore solution last Monday. One bag shows signs of growth (germination in a week), while the other shows no signs of germination. The bag with no growth also has spots of orange liquid on the side towards the bottom. Is this wet spot? Someone else said it was probably just starches from the rye, but it might slow growth. Did anyone else notice this when they observed their colonizing bags? Also, what should I do if this bag never colonizes? It'll take too long for me to create new spawn by the time I find out, not to mention I don't currently have any of the resources to do so. Will one bag work, but just slower? Or is this too much of a risk of contamination? Thanks for your help.
Peace

see this is the problem, you damn newbies think you can buy these kits and grow great shrooms by doin no work and sittin on your ass ;) just messin with ya, cause thats pretty much how it goes down.
the only thing that i would suggest is cutting a slit in the bag (in a sterile enviroment for example a glove box) and drain the fluid from the bottom and then seal with duct tape. do this on the opposite side from the filter patch. i did this with my own bags and it sped up colonization and got rid of all the excess water.
i dont know if Ryche would suggest doin this, but it seemed to work for me so heck with Ryche ;).
good luck with the whole thing though. i would wait and see what Ryche has to say before takin my advice. just cause it worked for me doesnt mean that it will work every time. i dont want to ruin your whole set up cause of contams or somethin like that.

That's a pretty good idea WhereAbouts! Yeah I'll wait for Ryche's input, before I plunge into it, and screw it up. Thanks for your help, man.

No worries...I knew you were just joking around :) By the way keep us updated on how the Pan Cyan/Pan Trops work on the DB Kit.

Just reread your post and realized that you might not be using the whole DB Kit for the Pan Cyans/Pan Trops, just the bags of rye. Let us know how they work out anyway.

okee dokee. i sent away for a whole other ten pound bag of compost cause i used the one that came with the kit for the austrailians. it works out good any way cause all you need is the compost and not the kit for the pans. they need a thinner substrate layer (as Ryche informed me) so the kits substrate layer of four inches will be way too thick. they should come out good though.

coming along just fine...as of now it is more then 75% of the compost is colonized. i dont really know if this is slower or faster then the grain colonizes it, but its only been about a week and im seeing very fast colonization. cant wait, so it seems like forever ;)
