aaw man cheers! that sounds like it could explain it totally!
i saw that clump starting to form a few days ago which must have been when some of the larger pins started to form that i didn't notice 'cause they were partly obscured by the lid they were sitting on.
i worried that it was contamination but it must have been pinning starting.
is sitting the cakes directly on the perlite a reliable way to reintroduce moisture to the WHOLE cake, not just the bottom of it?

Ive had green mold grow on a bruised (blue) clump and it appeared bluegreen for a few days then went green.

Yes! Sitting the cakes on the perlite will help hydrate the whole cake. So thats a good idea, unless you put h2oh (hydrogen peroxide) in your perlite water. If you did than the shrooms will grow weird looking and unhealty. So ive hard.
