Hydrogen Peroxide or 70% isopro. alcohol?
    #3023593 - 08/19/04 01:13 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

Does Hydrogen Peroxide (H2o2) have the same disinfecting proporties as 70% isopro. alcohol? In other words can H2O2 be used as a substitute for sterolization if 70% isnt available?

It does not have the same disinfectant properties.

70% isopropyl is available everywhere.

Walmart sells it in 500 ml bottles for $1.

Good point no-tone. Higher concentrations often don't work as well as lower concentrations.

Josua dillutes his 70% 1:1 to 35%. Im guessing because it takes longer to evap giving it more time to kill everything. Also it dosnet stink up your room as much as using the same amount of 70-90%

Does anyone ever freak a little when they throw that just used alchohol soaked paper towel in the trash can in the corner, that it may start a fire. I do, so i soak it in H2O.

spontanious combustion isn't likely to occur in a trash can because of the lack of heat, unless you trashcan is really hot, and then it wouldn't be safe to thow paper away, anyway everything else in the can should make spontanious combustion an unlikely source of fire, but better to be safe, i guess.

i've been using H202 for pretty much all my disinfecting needs, including on my casings and to wipe down areas i want sterile, is this a bad idea? I have some iodine what can i use that for other than putting it in the tub in tub water.

I also have 90% isopropyl if i water that down 2:1 or 3:1 will it be better, more like the 70%?
