A thoroughly scientific method of control of the technology of our continent.

Democratic controls for all non-technical issues and decisions.

Removal of methods of scarcity such as money, debt, value, and interest. eww

Replacement of these methods with an empirical accounting of all physical resources, products, and services (called Energy Accounting). eww

Productive capacity many orders of magnitude higher than currently possible, without requiring any new equipment. ok?

Decrease in human labor required to produce these amounts through proper use of automation. What do they expect humans to do all day?

Higher standard of living for ALL citizens in terms of income, housing, health care, education, and leisure. sure...

Elimination or vast reduction of various social ills, such as poverty, crime, pollution, insecurity, and disease. sure...

Sounds like a form of boring Socialism. It would leave and aweful lot of people to just sit around all day.

It's Marxism fused with an obsession with technology.

Sounds like one of the endings to Deus Ex 1 and 2.

No way to eliminate scarcity. Goods and resources will always be finite. Everyone will always battle for the limited supply of them. In capitalism, the way we allocate scarce goods and resources is called the price mechanism. Getting rid of the price mechanism doesn't alievate the problem that goods and resources are finite and scarce. All that would do is to eliminate the most effective way of distributing them.

No you actually can accomplish this just at the price of creating a world exactly like 1984.

If you cant think of anything better for people to be doing with their time than to work at jobs they hate, which are actually unnecessary, just to prop up our consumerist society which in turn leaves many, also unnecessarily, living a life of poverty, then I think you may be suffering from a severe case of imagination defecit disorder!!

I know this is a little OT but have you read any of Iain M. Banks 'Culture' novels?

He puts forward the idea of a future civilization in which scarcity has been eliminated by machines. The machine intelligence or 'Minds' which run the Culture are of almost god like intelligence and their with technology almost god like power. They are able to tap the raw energy of the universe and use it create and mould matter in almost any form they see fit. The machines have also re-designed language and the human genome to almost perfection.

Humans are left with little to do except pursue Hedonism (does not seem all bad )
There is point also that the Culture could be considered 'Dead', at least from a human point of view.

I also like the duality of the word 'Culture'.

Culture
n.

The totality of socially transmitted behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought.
A high degree of taste and refinement formed by aesthetic and intellectual training.

and...

Culture
n.
The growing of microorganisms, tissue cells, or other living matter in a specially prepared nutrient medium.
