Ontarian Mushroom Find

a. Central ontario, Canada; growing in dirt/pine needles under a pine tree

b. Gills are blank white, not attached to the stem

c. Cap is about two and a half inches wide, stem was about 4 and a half inches long and about a half inch wide

d. Stem is white, solid and fibrous; it's white all the way through also

e. Cap is golden yellow to reddish orange with white worts, has a smooth leathery texture

f. Spore print colour: pending

g. Mushroom bruises a slightly darker beige/brown colour

h. Scent of mushroom reminiscent of cubensis kind of, not very strong scent

You did everything right... Your description was great. I think a lot of people shy away from id'ing without a photo...

If I were Gumby, I would change the faq. A good photo should be required for any ID. Digital cameras are cheap these days and any serious hunter can afford one.

Text descrpitions are old school. And a piss in the wind at best.

Sounds kinda like Amanita muscaria var. formosa, but like Stymee said... Just a piss in the wind. Hard to say without a pic.

Those of any help? Got an old digital camera, bit of a POS... That's about the best I can do, though.

It appears to be A. muscaria var formosa, we'd really need to see the stem, including the base as it was in the ground(cup, or no cup?) to be sure

Cap has some remains of universal veil if that's what you meant by 'cup'.  Unforunately can't remember what the base looked like and no longer have it :frown:
