Just when you thought reality tv had gone too far...
    #3023723 - 08/19/04 03:43 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

I get this email about casting for a new reality show on Fox:

*Families that
are chosen to be on the show will receive $20,000 compensation.

We are looking for energetic families with out-of-control children for a
brand new Fox Reality Series, "Nanny 911".

Our ?Nanny Specialists? will come to your home, assess the situation, and
work their incredible ?Mary Poppins?-like magic to transform your
"terrible tykes" into perfect angels.

Requirements:
1. Mother and Father must be married
2. Family must have at least one child between the ages of 2 and 9

first off, $20,000 isn't shit for being the 'star' of a primetime television show.  you know why these reality shows are so popular with networks?  because they are making a killing off the production cost to advertisment price ratio.  they are laughing all the way to the bank, happy that middle america is content with a dismal amount of money and their 15 minutes of fame.

secondly, since when did troubled children become a form of entertaintment for this country?  i realize daytime talk shows like Maury and Springer have featured this shit for a long time, but not in the same format, invading the sacred space of the home.  And i thought the reality show about mom-swapping was bad enough.

granted i don't watch any of this garbage so my opinion is based on the commercials i see, but this is making me fucking sick.  reality tv featuring adults only is one thing, but when you start dragging young impressionable kids into it, i have some sersious problems with calling it 'entertainment'.  like i even have to tell you not to support this shit, thats why i love this place:grin:.  i just had to vent...

I think FOX should make a show about an under-ambitious student who likes to drink beer, read classic novels and generally avoid responsibility in his pajamas all day. I would take $20K for that.

Gee, I think I've seen that one before....

The very nature of experience is ineffable; it transcends cognitive thought and intellectualized analysis. To be without experience is to be without an emotional knowledge of what the experience translates into. The desire for the understanding of what life is made of is the motivation that drives us all. Without it, in fear of the experiences what life can hold is among the greatest contradictions; to live in fear of death while not being alive.

they already made that one, it starred Nicole Ritchie and Paris Hilton, though the name of the escapes me now.....and im sure they got more than $20,000:thumbdown:

You hit the nail on the head with that one! While a popular sitcom star can command a couple of hundred thousand per episode (or, in some cases, millions) they pay reality show "stars" peanuts - very cost effective.

Other people's woes make for good entertainment!

This week: morphine, cocaine and DMT. Outdoor apartment furniture sculpture and hotdog salad sandwiches. Don't miss it!
