So a friend sent me this picture of a 1/2 pt WBS jar at about 6 days. Does this look like its on the right track?

that one is B+...there are some other jars of BRF that just today look completly covered in white goodness, but the pics didn't work out. So you think this one above is on the right track? Any pointers?

It looks good in my opinion. Colonizing well, no signs of contams. Have fun with it.

thanks for the replys...this was straight spore innoculation. The birdseed jars aren't really shakable anymore. Is that ok?

I noticed the same thing...once the myc starts colonizing it holds the WBS together and you can't shake it very well. These jars were filled too much but yours looks ok, so I'm guessing the loss of shakability is typical...?

It is, but if you shake hard, sometimes you can break it up and spread the myc.

Looking good.

Does shaking disturb the myc? Does it temporarily stall growth?

^^

dustz, it distributes the mycellinium around the substrate, making the jar colonize faster.

when using WBS, could u boil the WBS jars for like 2 hours, or do u need to PC it?

from what I have read, it is imperative that you PC all grain based substrate.

Correct, they hold nasty spores. You'll get green and pin heads (the bad kind) if you boil.
