Depressing instances of bias
    #3021502 - 08/19/04 02:16 AM (13 years, 10 months ago)

I am a tad bit drunk right now, so I apologize if my ramblings
upset or confuse anybody.

Now before all of you Left-wing leaning people pounce on me(hint
hint Alex123..   ).  I ask that you read my whole post.

I was just watching a program on the Trio network.  I have
come to the conclusion that this network is undoubtedly
biased to the Left.  They have just played a bunch of programs
that in a very veiled way painted Texas as a backwards conservative
state.  Some of the concepts that were very lightly ridiculed
were patriotism, support of George Bush, and the "American way
of life".  These three things are not related at all in
my opinion.  I have patriotism, I have criticized excessive
consumerism in the past, and I don't support George Bush.  But the
editor of these programs in my opinion tries to tie all of
these things together to imply that there is an American attitude
of brashness, stupidity, and inflexibility.  The tactics that
these type of shows use are things I have routinely seen from
Left-wing sources.  They use a muted and pompous sarcasm and a
self-righteous stance to attack anything that they view as not
being "progressive".  To me it seems ironic that a group of people
should rail against elitism, yet partake in it.

Now some of you who have read any of my posts know that I routinely
attack the Left and I only sporadically attack the Right.  The reason
that I think I do this is because I view Leftist ideas as being
much more ubiquitous and accepted than Rightist ideas in modern
America.  As the years go by, the media and the general attitudes
of people seem to lean more and more Left.  If I had been living
in Nazi Germany I probably would have attacked the Right more than
I attack the Left.

I just cannot get over my opinion of how the extreme Left is grounded
in rebellion for rebellion's sake.  They seem to automatically attack
anything that has been grounded in tradition or convention.  They
love to exalt the perceived victim, while admonishing the perceived
oppressor.  To view the world in such a black and white light, and
to allow yourself to be controlled by such an ideology to me seems
a sickness of thought and of character.

But, at the same time the more extreme elements of the Right are
sometimes outright comical in their delusions and their refutations
of new ways of looking at things.

Throughout history, I think that the Right has poisoned many cultures
(Nazi Germany for example), but recently I think that the Left has
caused more problems than the Right has.  I implore all of the
members of this political forum to reject dogmatic thinking(whether
you are Left or Right).  I have much more respect for people who
consider issues and make up their own minds.  Too often people allow
themselves to latch onto one way of thinking and their chosen
ideology influences or outright poisons their entire view of the
