My first ever jars. I did 12 PF tek. Started with one jar growing little green. I took it out, then got 2 more. I took those out. Came back from a trip 3 days later and now I have 4 more with green. I've taken them all out. I am pretty sure these are mold??? What did I do wrong. How can I not do this next time. Are my last 5 jars going to get infected too? Please help

thats some science experiment you have going there.
Doesn't PF tek recommend half-pint jars?
You might try taken them out and then just carefully take it apart to see where the contams came from. If it's all over it might not have been PC'd well enough.

OK. Sorry that would probably help. I did the PF tek as far as substrate mix. I used a pressure cooker 15 psi for 2 hours just to be extremely safe. I kept the holes taped at first and then I read on here not to do that, so I untaped them. The only thing I can think of was the tek said to sterilize the syringe only if it got touched. Now I wonder if should sterilize after each jar anyway or after each hole?? I also used rainwater as someone said to use organic water, but I don't think that would do anything as it was PC'd for 2 hours. I am really worried about my remaining 5 jars. I just dumped the others and cut through them and the green stuff seemed to go through to the center in some, only on the outside in others. Mold did seem to line up with my inoculation holes. I've kept them in a rubbermaid container at about 70 to 75 degrees. Seems like I got good white stuff, but then this stupid green stuff!!! I had 2 diff strains, EC and Orissa. I have more EC green, only have 2 left of it. Just need to know what I did wrong I guess.

Did you have foil or any type of filter over your lids? If not, use tyvek, coffee filters, and foil just to be really safe.

I used foil over the lids while they were in the pressure cooker. Is that right??

Theres no way those are half pint jars.The mouths of the jars are much wider.Half pint jars are much smaller check the box they came in.

Yes they are 1/2 pint jars, box says and the mixture stated in the PF tek fit perfectly. I mixed each one individually. I got spores from spore101. Could someone please help me with my real problem?

It looks like the syringes were contaminated since the contamination starts deep down on the inoculation points. Happens.
I would ask for replacement syringes.

Hey im kinda new at this too so i know where u are coming from . I had some trouble with contams at frist. You said u flamed the needle once? I flamed my needle every 2 holes and wipe with 70% before every hole. make your self a Alchol lamp Link is at the bottom of my post. very helpfull IMO. I thought my syringes where bad too but i made a karo/water jar and had no contams. save your last 2ccs for a karo/water jar and go from there. PCing for 2 hours is a long time.
CLEAN is very very imporantant.

those are 1/2pint jelly jars there not the right ones try again dont pc for so long it carmelizes the grain an wont let the spores grow out
