THATS FUCKIN FUNNY........... IT IS A MYC. LOG

I thought your were posting a GROW LOG
 :iloveyou:
Yeah a Dunk and Roll would do it very well but, if it were me
I would cut that thing in half.
Lay it side by side
And case it in verm

That is COOL :crazy2:

You might want to put a loose plastic sheet on it to prevent drying until pins form.  Then you remove the plastic and let fruit.

It all depends of your setup.  If you have really high RH it might not be necessary but if you are at 90% RH, drying will become an issue.

Based on the pic, it looks like perlite humidification so maybe rolling in verm and treating that big log like a cake will do the trick!

Post your results!!

.fs.

You could have went wih a much higher spawn ratio and made multiple logs or a larger one with more straw.

The only diffrence would be a longer wait for colonization.

Good luck! There's nothing wrong with experimenting. It's how we all learn, and how the whole log tek came to be in the first place.

The main reasons for keeping a log wrapped up until it pins are: 1) The wrapping helps to hold in moisture so the log doesn't dry out due to evaporation before all that moisture is needed for fruit development, and 2) by holding in the CO2 during colonization, less of your substrate is consumed by the mycelium, therefore more of your substrate is still in place when fruiting time comes along. This helps to insure a good flush of large fruitbodies.

People need to lighten up. I like it when guys experiment and have the courtesy to post their results, good or bad. If someone improves on the straw log tek, my hat is off to them. There's always a better way to do something, but if we never experiment, we never learn. Rock on mr. X

Hopefully, it won't contaminate on you now. You can be sure that contaminant spores landed on the uncovered log. Now that it's covered, it will be easier for those contaminants to germinate. Don't give up though if it does. Just make a new one, and leave it covered from day one, with a few holes poked in for gas exchange.

That log looks pretty colonized. Roger, wouldn't the myc be able to fight off contaminant if it's pretty thickly colonized, as in the log above?
