Popcorn questions
    #3019678 - 08/18/04 07:49 PM (13 years, 7 days ago)

ok so AFOAF is currently trying out some popcorn and has a few questions. Ok so first off he is following the popcorn tek with pics from this site. It was his first time with grains and his first time using a PC (questions about that in my other post hehe)Also he made his own syringe following a yogurt cup tek from this site as well.

So the popcorn he thinks was done correctly after the boil and rinse the popcorn was plump, you couldn't smash it with your fingers, but if you stuck your fingernail in the kernel it split easily. Also after loading the jars he could see many off the grains were split and swollen.

After the PC there was no water in the jars and all looked good, but its been 5 days and no signs of growth whatsoever.

Whats the time normally for signs of growth on popcorn? Also jars was put in a incubator at 82*.

If the syringe was bad wouldnt there be something..somekind of growth even mabye contams? If the syringe was bad would nothing at all happen?

And if the jars are not PC'd correctly will that slow growth, or mabye they did not have the right mosture content, or even yet mabye he is just being impatient?

Just trying to see what you guys/gals might have to say so he can avoid any mistakes the next time  :smile:I know this first run might be a total disaster but any thoughts or help will be very appricated  :tongue2:

Popcorn usually takes longer to take off when compared with other whole grain substrates.  Just give it a lil extra time (week or more) and check up on em.  Don't sweat it.  :smirk:

Takes longer?? WHAT are you saying???

I don't think you have used POPCORN before

That shit goes like mad

If it is not then you got it to wet.

When I use popcorn I get Quart sized jars fully colinized in 15-18 days???
Somtimes faster but, it would be hard to believe
In the small PF jars it is more like 8-10 days???

What are you talking about?? :tongue2:

I can smash my kernels with my fingers, if i had finger nails i'd test if my finger nail could penetrate it but i'm sure it can. Popcorn with liquid myc is done in a week plus or minus.
