Should you let mushroom caps open up before harvesting?

Because I have been told it is bad for the spores to be shot out onto your cakes and some times can also contamintate them.

-Whats your prefrence?

My friend prefers to let the caps open before harvesting.

i hear they are most potent when just after the veil is torn. i've not sampled shrooms w/ big open caps vs. shrooms with newly torn veils so i can't conclude anything.

Harvest just after the veils break...will give you the best potency to weight ratio so to speak.  If you keep letting them grow the shroomies will get bigger but the chemical stops being produced.  So you get big, low potency shroomies :frown:  Plus, they start to taste different, just my personal experiences though.

I like to harvest just as the veil is breaking so when the shrooms are dry the caps stay on and you get nice specimins to eat. I always find loose caps when i pick later but you do you more weight in the end. Im sure the flavor does mature with the shrooms.

Spore deposits are one of the most sterile things in nature. Large spore deposits can interfere with developing pins. As far as potency anyone that tells you they can tell a difference is a fool plain and simple I suggest staying clear of that person also as nothing good will come of that relationship :wink: :laugh: for the most part average spores loads will be no problem :wink:

I dont care much for spores if your eating the shrooms. When they get stuck in your teeth there all black and you can get a black rim on your lips. :laugh:

Well after reading soooooooo many times about when to harvest......


I want to say this.................... GO GRAINS AND CASE THEM

Or cut the cakes in half put e'm all side by side AND THEN CASE THEM


AND when your looking at say 200 shrooms with 50 veils craked and 50 viels open and 50 so old they are falling over And 50 who are still young and no matter what you DO...... Picking one is surley not gonna happen.

I Wonder will the question of when Exactly to harvest Seem as siily to me as it will to you?????
