a baby woodrose question
    #3018775 - 08/18/04 04:16 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

I've noticed that at the base of each leaf there is a droplet of liquid on either side. It tastes extremely sweet.

What is it exactly?

That is very odd. I get a wierd formation on my plants. Its a white fluffy ball. Almost looks like its trying really hard to flower then stops short. I believe jojoba gets these too. I am interested in what this may be as well.

Here are some pictures of baby woodrose from Koh Samui Thailand. I left before the seeds came.

Those fluffy balls are dormant shoots.

The exudate is from positive pressure from the roots forcing liquid out of the plant. In certain spots, especially in parts of the plants vascular system called Seive Tube Members, often if an aphid sticks it's long proboscus into the plant to get sugar, it forces itself right through the aphid and out it's ass because the STM's pressure.

The sugary dew you see is from the result of what's called Guttation.

those drops on the plants are most likely not from aphids. I just mentioned the aphids to illustrate the immense pressure that's in the seive tube members. The droplets from guttation is just from immense pressure.

Just to clear that up incase it was interpretted the other way.
