Horse poo w/o straw?
    #3016507 - 08/18/04 12:23 AM (19 years, 7 months ago)

Straight horse poo, while wonderful to spawn to, is not being colonized as fast as I thought it would be.

I used a 2 - 1 ratio of spawn, (pf cakes) ground in a blender and mixed well.

Here is my question, can I use verm to make it more "airy" thus easier for the myc to go through? I dont have access to straw, (for now) or i'd use that. What are my alternatives? YES I'VE SEARCHED, but I see only straw, any suggestions?

Big, If your poo was too wet after pasteurization you may be smothering the mycelium. That may be your problem. I have experienced only explosive growth with poo, I think you may be smothering your spawn.

You gotta let it air out someway...better to let it air than stay wet an contam

Okay, very good, which brings me to another question... What about heat source.... If I let them air out then they will drop in temp. Currently there at 86degrees right on the money.... W/o the incubator they'll drop down to the mid to upper 70's...

I cant take the lid off incubator cause there are other "babies" trying to get warm.

that big, if you have something covering it, just open it up a little, over time your mixture will lose water content. What did you spawn with?

Pf cakes.... 6!!!  :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

And the temp drop is LESS important than the moisture at this point?  I'm doing it right now, maybe I should just leave the top completely off?

Leave the top off and cover that poo with tyvek. Allow the transfer of moiture and protect against contams. TYVEK my friend! Just take a piece and put it over your spawn. Use enough so U have some over-lap and PRESTO! Moisture reduction in a contam free environment.... (well in theory anyway!)
Good luck
