Coldshocking Casing.
    #3016589 - 08/18/04 02:43 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

OK what i ment on my other thread was *i have read on numerous pages NOT to let this happen* my mistake meaning i shouldnt let the top layer of my casing colonize, so my question is how do you get it to pin without colonizing the top layer?? i patch as the myc starts to pop through and should i keep them in the terrerium until about 7-10 day? (theyve been in about 5) and then coldshock them after a patch another time???

Coldshocking really doesnt do much...I usually expose mine for pinning at about the 10th day

As soon as you see myc poking through patch and mist making sure that casing is plenty moist because that moisture will have to last the pinning stage then initiate pinning, use all your pinning triggers at the same time. If your substrate was level and your casing is level then by the time the myc switches from veg to generative growth it will be uniformly taking over the surface, knots will form then you'll notice little reddish/brown dots on these knots, you'll want to piss your pants cause your so happy! These dots are primordia, the beginning stages of mushroom growth, once you see these your pins are set. Then it's time to bring them babies home to mama!!! No need to cold shock just place it into your fruiting chamber which should mean a drop in temps of 10 degrees or so, the introduction of light (12-16hrs.) and FAE (fresh air exchanges) 4-5 a day, I recommend a couple of light squirts after each fanning to help keep up with daily moisture loss. GL and Welcome friend

shit, i kept mine in the incubator patching as i go for about 5 days then moved them into the terrerium and have been there about 5 days, the developed this kind of thin sick looking mycelium (its not cobweb) does this mean im not fanning enough or something?? my RH is around 95% (water beeding down the sides) and there sitting on perlite. and ive had 12/12 light ever since theyve been in there, should i move em back to the incubator or something??

the myc was covering most of the surface so i moved it into the terrerium and patched it another 3-4 times

I rarely patch...if your casing top layer is real even you really dont usually need to patch at all

You do and when you get a few down you will know when its about to pin..that way you know when to induce fruiting

oh alright, thanks mate i was worried there for a while :ooo: keeping it in the fruiting chamber for now until the myc takes the top layer will still fruit it right??

Theres a window where a novice and a pro will see a difference. listen up aussieone, with a actual level substrate the myc should come through evenly in all the valleys at once but in the real world sometimes this just doesn't happen SO you lightly patch and in reality your myc should be just below the surface THIS IS THE TIME TO INITIATE PINNING/FRUITING! The window here is a few days when the myc switches from veg mode to generative mode, The myc will be showing up in all the valleys and knotting will occur this is what makes the difference between a novice and a pro knowing when to initiate. The time from casing the sub until the initiation the moisture level of the casing should be "near saturation" this is optimal in nature as well as here, once the myc pokes through then it's time to hold off on any misting the casing will have enough for perfect knotting and pinning. This will work for most cubie strains More aggressive strains will require earier initiation to prevent overlay conditions. Read this it will be a big help and will give you a solid foundation on the art of pinning: Getting the most out of your casings!, A pinning strategy. GL
