Shopping
    #3014559 - 08/17/04 06:04 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

I have good "luck" buying expensive toys because I:

a. Read the common man's experiences (anecdotes).

b. Read the "experts" reviews.

c. Read Consumer Reports to see statistical averages for failures.

d. Read the spec and technical sheets.

e. Study the company building the product and the warranty.

f. Test "drive" the vehicle or toy personally.

g. Comparison shop for price and wait for a good deal.

This is called intelligence and discrimination. When somewhat similar steps are applied to investigating a strange phenomenon, I am called a close-minded skeptic. (See the article: Why UFOnauts drive Yugos)

Are you sure this "luck" isn't due to your vast collection of voodoo dolls?

I carefully researched the many types of VooDoo dolls. Haitian ones are the most authentic and have the greatest power.

But that's only because their country is dying, right?
Was Papa Doc immune to voodoo?

I consult my Ouija board before going shopping, and make my purchase on blind faith.

that's right! let's not forget that successful/rich people are incapable of being spiritual.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.---senior doobie

Guess I should have titled this: "Discrimination applies equally to the material and spiritual worlds", but it seemed a little wordy.

thought that's what you were implying, would you want to explain further why you think so?

I dunno if I'm thinking about this incorrectly, but sometimes spritual "thingS" aren't really "things" at all.  it's more like an experience (say like a magic mushroom trip). lots of times these "things" that are spritual you really can't even shop for because they are spontaneous.

unless you are referring to buying book and paying 60 bucks an hour for a spiritual guide, then you got me there

Half truths will cost you even more-they always do! Bust open your piggy bank you tightwad- this is your salvation we are talking about here!

However, if you are discount shopping, I hear the faustian bargain is a pretty good deal. A lot were sold!

Maybe swami can apply his method to buying into deals with the devil and give us the best value for our soul.

And of course, the best things in life are FREE! Speaking of, I'll see if I can catch ya on AIM now.

I would try to apply the middle way to this activity
being a serious shopper can certainly get a bit heavy
a lighter heart helps when dealing with shopping lists

materialism is very spiritual in some ways

Collecting works of art that inspire you and nurture your soul can be very spiritual.

Just driving my sports car fast and shifting gears puts me in tune with my spirit.

Ever see a beautiful home and say to yourself, I can have that and then work to realize your potential to make any dream become possible? Thats is like spiritual stoking to the max.

I can come up with hundreds of answers to this one. Without the physical/material we couldn't realise the spiritual. They make a good a team.
