only one shroom at a time?

Ive done a few cakes with brown rice and vermuculite. The thing is is that whenever it fruits, only one shroom grows. There are no aborts, but no other shrooms except for the one that grows fully. I thought mabe its because i birthed the jar when it was fully colonized and didnt wait for the primordia to form. The last jar i did, I waited until the primordia showed up before birthing. Well guess what, only one primordia showed up and its almost ready to be harvested. my cakes are brown rice and vermiculite. temp is around 71-75, humidity is 95-100%. it gets fluroescent light about 2 hrs a day. btw the strain is huautla. ive had this other cake in the fruiting chamber for about 3 1/2 weeks and it has lots of hyp. knots, but it doesnt look like its doing anything anymore. i know that patience is the key, but is it supposed to take this long?

What kind of air exchange are you getting? You should probably fan out your tub 3 times a day or so.

Try a strain like B+ or even Koi Samoi...I've had good luck with them and they are pretty resistant. The Koi Samoi grow like mad too, less time until harvest

I put my cakes and casings under 10 hours of difused florecent light and they turn out great. Why dont you give that a try.

I have the same thing going on right now. This is the 3rd cake i have birthed and the only one to have any growth. The first two kinda just sat there. Right now i have one tiny mushroom which im happy about but i would prefer to have more. Definitely casing the next batch.

that's how cakes can be..
pretty upsetting to wait that long for such minimal results isn't it???
spore to LC to grains to manure/coir = great results.

I second what Taylor suggested, from what I've read, it should be a 12/12 thing when you're at that stage.

Her0, did you dunk your cake for 12-18 hrs? I see clearly that you didn't roll the whole thing in vermiculite. Also try using a more enclosed terrarium with at least 5 inches of damp perlite.
If you did those things, I guarantee near 14 grams (wet) per 1/2 pint PF.
Cakes aren't big fruiters, but they'll give back as much as you put in.
They just need to be in the right environment.
I think RR would even back me up on this.

See how blue the top edges of your cake is? That is brusing from lack of moisture. The cakes are drinking up the water that was initially put in there to create the mycelium network. The reason you dunk right after birthing is to give them a nice big gulp of water before producing mushrooms. Your little guy is just thirsty.
Remember, mushrooms are in excess of 92% water! Dunk after birth, and between flushes!
Do yourself a favor and experience a proper PF.
What you should do with that cake is pluck off that mushroom, dunk for 16hrs until is swells up, then roll in dry vermiculite, hand mist, keep rolling, then place in a fruiting chamber with 4-6 inches damp perlite. Your cake will recover and fruit beautifully.

psycho_bin_farma: are those your cakes on the pic? Looks sweeet! Here is a noob question. If he reports 95-100% humidity, wouldn't more perlite be kinda redundant? I'm still learning...

well, yes and no. a small layer of perlite will show 95%+RH but for how long? 4-6 inches and you know you're good for at least a week.
It's just less work.
And I think hand misting is bad.

thanks for the personalized response. This is my first attempt and ive been making alot of mistakes as i go along but i see it as part of the learning process and since this is something i am really enjoying i can see myself improving. I did not dunk this cake because it was pinning inside the jar so i birthed it and put it straight into the terrarium. I wish i would have dunked it now though It was bluing so i tried to put some moist verm on it.. as you can see.. it only stuck to the top.. I will definitely dunk and roll after this flush because this is the first mushroom ive ever had.. and i kind of wanna let it run its course.
Thanks again man
