does anyone let their shrooms sporulate in the casing?

And does it do anything? Does it really matter? The only problem I could see with this is that one may not be able to differentiate between spores and a black mold. What do you think?

Not to disagree muse-sick,but, Paul Stamets says that sporulation onto a casing layer can inhibit further pinhead formation.

well, you have to let some of the quicker developing shrooms sporulate before you pick them because the smaller shrooms that are still growing up might be damaged if you pick the more mature ones when they are in their prime for picking. i wouldn't worry about the black mold being confused w/ spores because i'd think the black mold would make the casing smell weird and you'd be able to notice that way.

I wonder why....it's not like the layer is thick, it wouldn't inhibit oxygen absorption, would it?
