Police seize psychedelic mushroom stash

Police found psychedelic mushrooms and other illegal drugs during a search at a South Link Avenue apartment last week.
During the raid, which was precipitated by purchases made by the department, investigators seized 7.2 grams of cocaine, 57 grams of marijuana, 20.4 grams of psychedelic mushrooms, two Oxycodone pills and five methadone pills.
Christopher Paul Godbey, 27, of 211 S. Link St., was charged with possession of Psilocyban mushrooms, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and possession of cocaine.
Police charged David Jordan Semple, 21, of the same address, with possession of psilocyban mushrooms, possession of marijuana and possession of Oxycodone and methadone.
Salisbury Police Sgt. Sam Russell said this is the first case the department has seen in at least five years involving illegal mushrooms. "We've been hearing rumors of people using them,"he said.
These are not the type of mushrooms springing up in people's yards lately.
The psilocyban found in certain mushrooms is a hallucinogen which produces effects similar to LSD. The mushrooms that contain psilocyban generally grow in tropical climates such as South America or Mexico, Russell said, reading from information from the National Drug Intelligence Center.
The mushrooms found in the Link Street apartment had apparently not been grown there, the sergeant said.
When officers searched the apartment, they found most of the drugs sitting in the open, Russell said. The mushrooms -- worth about $200 on the street -- sat on top of a scale.
Both men were placed into the Rowan County Detention Center, Godbey with a $15,000 bond and Semple with a $5,000 secured bond. The men made their first court appearances on Monday.

I hate hearing about drug seizures. It makes me pissed because it's a waste of substance when the police take it, and because they're preventing people from doing drugs.
I'd like to have that 7.2 grams of cocaine, personally.

20.4 grams of psilocybine mushrooms is only approximately 4-5 doses and not woirth 200 dollars on the street. IT takes 305 dried grams per dose.
Their info from a US drug info center is way off.

I have been doing some limited research into the local market to determan what they sell for and what most people buy. (And trying to find some one selling)
My limited research has indicated that most local people consider 1 gram and sometimes 2 to be a normal dose. When I have suggested that 3 to 5 grams is a normal dose the responce has been that they just want a fun high. I personally think they are afraid to face what they may be shown. I have also found that when you can find it, the amount stated (20 grams) will go for $200 to $300.
I also question the intent to distribute. As you (mj) have said that would only be 4 to 5 (normal) doses and could easily be for personal use.
