Placing Cakes on Perlite or Not?
    #3012107 - 08/17/04 05:40 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

My cakes are inside of my aquarium and I put them on top of a piece of tin foil. Since this is my first time, I am taking nothing for granted and am seeking out the wisdom of others on matters I am unsure of.

I am using perlite very successfully and have achieved 99% humidity in my aquarium, and am keeping the temp between 74 and 78 by using an air conidtioning unit in the closet they are in. So far so good. I am wondering if it is better to set them directly on the perlite, or if they are ok on the foil. Any thoughts?

Shoney

They are ok on the foil so long as your humidity is high. Placing your cakes directly on damp perlite will ensure hydration but will also produce some fat ass, waterlogged fruits. If that does not bother you then go for it.

Don't put your cakes directly on the perlite. Your cake will waste its energy trying to colonize the perlite. You did the right thing.
