amount of light..
    #3007848 - 08/16/04 01:10 AM (19 years, 7 months ago)

do shrooms need alot of light to grow, or would a small amount of light work? my friend could not find a rubbermaid with a clear top so he got one that is dark blue and cut a hole in the top and affixed a clear cd case to lid to the rubbermiad tub. will this be enough or is more light needed?

You would be better getting some sort of clear plastic for a top

I have used Saran Wrap in mutiple layers with no troubles at all.

But I would think what you have will work. I have seen shrooms grow with less.

i was thinking about cutting a large hole in the lid and taping saran wrap or a clear garbage bag over the hole, but the problem is i have nosey cats who get into everything, and they would rip the plastic off.

Light is also required for pin formation. The more the better, but try not to get them too hot.

Yeah that will work....One of my first tubs only had a 4x4 inch opening in the top, that was covered by a little clear plastic, and some caulk. Once a day I would plug in a small desk lamp and place it over the hole for a few hours. I got pinns in the normal 4-5 days time span.

window insulator kits make great lids.

however you probably will need some air pumps for air exchange because you cant open it up to fan them.
