Questions about Poorman's Pod

What is the best substitute for geolite? I can't find it anywhere, only in hydroponic kits that cost mucho $$$. I was thinking maybe of subsituting larger grain vermiculite for the geolite?
Is one air stone enough? I really don't see the need for two in a 4x1 chamber.
Do you need to change the medium for every crop cycle, or can you just re-sterilize with alcohol?
Thanks.

Lava rock works well or so I have read here on the site
with a chamber that size I would think 1 airstone would be enough
not sure on the last question

Its more the pump size then the airstone. Buy a high volume pump and a big airstone or two.

I was considering perlite but that is gonna hafta be quite a bit to fill 4 inches of the bottom of a 4x1 container.
Anybody can answer my sterilization question?

Lava rock is what you want. Rinse it before using.

i use lava rocks from home depot, about 5 bucks. Just to be sure i soaked them in a very diluted bleach and water mixture , then rinsed and soaked<w/o bleach> well about 5 times. This maybe overkill, but better safe than sorry. Everything is going great for me lalalalalla. i tried perlite first it was very very messy, really not worth it. good humidity and great fruits.

Ok so if you use Lava rocks, do you re-sterilize after each crop or just dump it and fill it with new?

i dont see why you would need to resterilize.
if your gonna have a crop, and its gonna be in the fruiting chamber, and then there was gonna be a time period where the next crop is colonizing and nothing is in the fruiting chamber, then i would just break down the fruiting chamber. i mean, if shrooms arent growing in it, no reason to leave it there for something else to. otherwise, if your just gonna have crop after crop after crop in there, i wouldnt think youd need to sterilize. just refresh the water whenever the level gets low. use a water/hydrogen peroxide solution to keep the water sterile.i just take a bucket of water, and give it a glug glug of H2o2 and thats about it. maybe after AWHILE you might wanna break it all down, clean it all out, and tidy everything up, after a few months or so. but not after every flush or crop.
good luck
