Put it in the oven at 300 deg. for 1 hour.
But for me if it is coming straight out of the bag then I use it without any baking. That's just me though

Aside from it being non-nutricious, vermiculite is sterile (or should be anyway) straight from the bag. The process in which it goes through being made takes it well beyond temp.'s commonly used to sterilize. I use it straight from the bag like fucknuckle but it can't hurt to sterilize it.

Hey budro1,dont forget to wet the verm to just a little more than field capacity before you cook it in the oven. The water will evaporate a little during the high temps, and if you dont add any water at all you will have a melt down trust me!

Exactly and well said If your using a new bag forget sterilizing if your using an opened bag then sterilizing may be an option. GL

I had a few cakes that i recently just dunked and rolled. They had each had one flush. After the "roll" they appeared to get cobweb mold spreading just on the top layer of vermiculite<after a few days>. I took one cake and removed the vermiculite , isolated it just to see. It fruited fine and no sign on the mold on the cake. I threw it away anyway. The mold seemed to have no problem growing on the verm alone. Of course it wasnt as prolific as it usually is, but still just an observation. probably a freak occurence. Just a reminder to be clean no matter what. p.s and yes im sure it was mold , not myc.
