Possible Liberty Caps? ID needed w/ pic
    #3008860 - 08/16/04 12:14 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

I found a nice group of these mushrooms growing in a wooded area near a creek in a cowfield in semi muddy soil with mostly pine trees around. Southwest Germany area. As you can see the stem was pretty dark brown and very long, and the cap is kind of greyish brown with a brown nipple. The smell is very mild, not too mushroomy. The gills are dark, specked with gray. They are moderately spaced, with smaller gills in between the long ones.
Spore print is black. No ruler available, but I would estimate the cap to be a little under an inch across and about a half an inch tall. Hopefully the lighter in the picture helps with measurements.

I should know i pick enough of them, my friends think i`m mad because i pick pans, i pick pan foes, rickenii, semi, aters and the such. I tell you why, because in america i was getting high on pan foes and nobody ever believes me, they say NO, they aren`t active man, but i know the truth, oh yes, i know........and one day i hope to test all my dried pans, but until then, happy hunting, non believers. (PAN FOES WORK!!!!, WELL, IN KENTUCKY ANYWAY!!!!!)

I know what i pick and it was pan foes. I have been pickin for well over 5 years now with hardly any misjudgements whatsoever, even when i first went into a field and started eating which i did not know to be at the time, liberty caps, something just said "YES, these are em" and i ate, believing my minds judgement, i hadn`t even seen any before. ( i sure as hell found out after eating them......wowee)
Yes i was foolish but trusted my judgement, even with little or no knowledge of shrooms at the time, they just stuck out (liberty caps)

yes but in large quantitys, ihave yet to try rickenii, which i believe them to be, but then again in my opinion i believe all panaeolus to be active, so you decide, after years of picking and thinking you will get your own views on such matters. But do not listen to me, seriously, probably everyone in this place would disagree, especially mjshroomer, he would be furious, the pic is a little poor so my judgement could even be wrong, 80% sure.

nobody beleives him because he is crazy.and grossly innacurate.

funny thing about people being crazy. they dont realize it and nobody can convince them, they think evryone else is wrong. such is delusion. quite simple and predictable to the sane.

claims to have picked 'pan semi" huh? active paneolina foenisecci? panaeolus rickeniii? wrong, those are panaeolus sphinctrinus var. campatalanus. one error after another, people dont beleive you because youre full of it.

you cant peddle misinformation here, this is a place for real information, not wild fancy.

That image above is Panaeolus sphinctrinus var. campanulatus and it is not psychoactive.

And Panaeolus rickenii is not a a psychoactive shroom but is really a synomym named for Panaeolus acuminatus (which is also not psychoactive)

nor is the P. sphinctrinus one in your picture posted above.

And Panaeolina foenisecii is a brown spored mushrooms and does not belong to the black spored family of Panaeolus.

Sorry,. A lot of misinformation here.

mj

Pan foes are active, and i will take that to my grave with me, what other mushroom grows on the side of roads, in the grass, and looks like a foe, and is active????? (No dung around)
The answer, pan subs.
But it wasn`t them..........i know what i picked in america and i have seen the same species growing over here in the uk, my mate ate some over here without any effects, but in america i use to hsave 20 fresh ones and be away with the birdies.

Hello,

I am pleased with the amount of information! God Bless you all for doing such a great job becoming myco-philes, obsessed with fungus of all shapes and sizes. I am becoming as each day passes more crazy for it all. Anyways, just want to say hello for first time post.

Here is my response:

Let me propose this: At the university of south florida (near the art building) this early summer season I found many lawn varieties. At first I thought they were Pan. Sub. because of their ring around the margin (or atleast variance from top to margin), but there also appeared to be Pan. Foe. because of the habitat and description (although I never see the white stem as in some photographs, usually grey maybe some reddish brown tones). Actually I remember the spore prints were black (but because of the amount of varied small pan. fungus it's hard to say that all the prints were brown.)

Unfortunately this was before I logged in to this site. I don't have any pics for you to see. They didn't seem like they were 100% pan subs because the cap was a little bit smaller than the subs I've seen in pastures on dung and after some spore prints I went with the assumption that it was the Lawn Mower Mushroom!

I believe that there may be many varieties that have a mix or they're strictly subs that are under nourished, but the fungus was definitely active. (I ate just one). A friend also said he had a "nice day" from the lawn fungus there.

Just a proposition of some sort. I wish I had photos, etc.
