    #3007870 - 08/16/04 03:16 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

i am thinking about trying my hand at casings, i was wondering if you could make a casing with jsut cakes and verm, like verm for a bottom layer, crumble cakes, then have verm for the top layer. will this work?

im sorry if this is a stupid question, any help would be greatly appreicated!

Leave the bottom layer of verm dry to catch any excess water.
top layer shoould be damp.

I wouldn't use any dry verm on the bottom myself only because every casing I've ever seen dries out and shrinks anyways, if anything a moist layer first would help keep the casing hydrated a bit longer. Anyway here are a two 1/2pts. cased in a 9x6 tray, first and second flush respectively:

All that from two half pints!  It works

Your top layer needs to be very even for a good pinset

alounacara, is it really the evenness of the top layer, or the evensess of the amount of casing that the mycellinium has to move through?

Either way, your gonna have to patch a little bit, so sterilize some more casing to patch and to repatch when u pull the fuckers out after flushes.

Tip: A nice even pinset starts with a nice even substrate first then a nice even casing with plenty of structure (moisture pockets). GL guys
