Those are all good picks(especially Metropolis, Akira, and Naruto), but I would like to add a few...
For tripping there is nothing like a good Miyazaki such as Princess Mononoke, Laputa: Castle in the sky, Nausicaa: The valley of the wind, and Spirited Away. The faces on the characters and the environments are really organic and seem to constantly be changing, and its really cool when you are seeing shit as it is. For normal viewing or while high or drunk more violent/realistic pics like Spriggan, MD Geist, Golgo 13: The professional, Tokyo Godfathers, Perfect Blue, Graveyard of the Fireflies, Street Fighter 2 and Alpha (also the series is cool in a cheesy way), Vampire Hunter D (original version), Escaflowne, Fist of the North Star, BioHunter, Blood: The last vampire, and Beserk (this is a MUST WATCH series for old school anime lovers). That's all I can remember for now, but if anything else comes to me then I'll post it. These are some of my favorites, and I have seen a crap load of anime (most not worth noting) and I think that along with what is allready listed this is enough for months even years of quality movie time.

i suggest spirited away for tripping. Definately wierd and great movie with some meaning behind it. Lots of cool animation too. You can even rent it at a lot of places.

Try meditating in the forest next time, you might like it.

"There is a world beyond ours, a world that is far away, nearby, and invisible. And there is where God lives, where the dead live, the spirits and the saints, a world where everything has already happened and everything is known. That world talks. It has a language of its own. I report what it says. The sacred mushroom takes me by the hand and brings me to the world where everything is known. It is they, the sacred mushrooms, that speak in a way I can understand. I ask them and they answer me. When I return from the trip that I have taken with them, I tell what they have told me and what they have shown me."

Just started watching Berserk today...it's pretty good, but could literally be scary as hell if you're tripping.

Turn off the lights, turn on a blacklight, and pop in Spirited Away.

Also, Galaxy Express 999. It's been years since I last saw it, but that is one fine movie.

I imagine Sailor Moon would probably also be very interesting on substances.

Full Metal Alchemist.

you can find the episodes on bittorrent. There are currently 44 episodes out, but the series is only 52 eps long. Really good series. Cartoon network is going to be airing it in october, but i highly suggest watching the original (translated subs) instead of of crappy dubs of this great series.

try suprnova.org for the episodes

Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away - YES!
These are such beautiful, imaginative and positive movies. Spirited Away would be especially wonderful, its so strange and childlike and colourful and joyous!
I'm definatley gonna watch that one on my next trip.
I love Miyazaki.

A plethora of music aspirations control my temptations of future revelations beyond "now". The percussion, and the heart beat of my love and devotion. The rhythm goes beyond, prying into the third eye, releasing the creativity held so far inside. The melodicies, through the out of tune pianos and broken classical guitars...there lies a beauty. A beauty as prevelent as the fire inside. To release these energies is pure ecstacy, to deveop these gifts is sacred. The vocality, so pure as can be, shying away from herself, lies within me. For the underlying serenitity, this is what I live for. I plea for harmony, and nothing more. Music equals love. Creation of love leads to the procreativity of the World, and it's spirals and puddles prevailing.
