in vitro idea (supre cheap Tek using pop cans)
    #3004855 - 08/14/04 04:16 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

well i was thinking about how to get mushies the fastest earlier (since pint jars take long as fuck)so i figured i would try a small time in vitro grow.

i was thinking that pop cans would be great to use if they werent opaque (cuz u cant see how well colonized the mycellinium is. i also wanted plenty of room for them to grow in there. i figured that i could put a very thin layer of substrate on the bottom of a pop can (standard 12 oz.) and innoculate it, it would colonize quikly. also, because it is thin, it would be safer to assume that since the whole top of the substrate is colonized, it would be colonized under too if there was about an inch of substrate. i do want to eat the substrate too, and if its (the substrate) is so thin, perhaps it dosnt need the vermiculite.

here is my procedure:
cut of top of popcan and put plastic wrap on top of it, tie that down with string. then cover that with tin foil. innoculate and wait till i see sum growth, shake it up nice (like with grains)once colonized, dunk in water with bleach (100:1 ratio) and some diluted coffee. then cover with tyvek (got my 50 free envelopes from the post office today, hehehe) or coffe filters. i will then let themgrow right in the can.

i am going to try both normal, and brown rice flour. i am going to case one of each, and see if the coffe filters work as good as tyvek (i dont think tyvek breathes too well)

because this is such a cheap operation, iam going to prolly try 20-30 or so cansin total (not nnoculated all at the same time)

Anybody want to critique this?

i will be sure to post the results of my operation.

 :bye: :blazed:

No Idea how well that'd work. Let me know when you find out.

Makes me wonder if 20oz plastic beverage bottles could be used though.

Maybe fill it with a funnel instead of cutting top.

plastic melts when PC'd (according to my boy)

i hav tons of jars, but none half pints, and i want a fast procedure.

the beuty of this is its cheapness (for noobs), and the fact that it isnt too complicated.

well i like cutting the top more, cuz then u could look through the plastic wrap "window" at the entire surface.

Nahh just regular simple PF-Tek style...the only bad thing about using a beer bottle you have to break it when harvesting a first flush
Regular small glasses that are wide at the top are good because you can pop it back in after a harvest...
