plant ID help
    #3004487 - 08/14/04 01:48 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

Found these plants in my dad's gardens this summer.
Sorry for the bad pics, shitty camera  :frown:.

This one is a Passiflora. Does anyone know which species it is?

flower:

some leaves and a fruit:

And these? Are they morning glories?

They look just like the pics i've seen online of Ipomoea Violacea.
This plant is very common around here, but i never seen one with seeds. When are they supposed to set seeds?

Any help?

Thanks

how is the size and taste of the passiflora's fruit? does it have a strong smell?

the others do look like morning glories!
the seed appears after the flowers on the same clusters...

heavenly blue MG although the leaves almost look odd to me, i'm fairly sure thats the right variety. Here are some species descriptions for passion flower:

P. incarnata- 'Maypops' 'Wild Passionflower'
Cream or yellowish 2" flowers with purple or pink corona. Yellow 2" edible fruits. Hardy perennial vine with 3-lobed leaves. The hardiest species, to Zone 4 or 5 if given a heavy mulch. Medicinal

P. edulis- 'Purple Granadilla' 'Passionfruit'
Tender, vigorous climber. Flower 2" across, white with a curly, white banded purple corona, produces all summer. Deep 3-lobed, glossy leaves. Fruits deep purple, 3' long, with orange flesh. Grown more for the delicious fruit than the flowers. Good in beverages and recipes. Zone 8

P. caerulea -- 'Constance Eliott'
Pure white, fragrant flowers. Although not as free flowering as the species, it still produces bright orange fruit in autumn. Excellent choice as a houseplant.

P. caerulea- 'Blue Passion Flower'
A vigorous and rampant species. Flowers 4" across, lightly fragrant, petals white or pinkish, corona blue shading through white to purplish at the center. Flowers continuously till frost. 5-lobed leaves. Fruits yellow 1-1/2" long, edible. Hardy to Zone 8, root hardy to Zones 6 or 7.

i used to eat my passiflora's fruits for a lazy drowsy cheap legal buzz.. and always ended up sleeping. when i tried it to sleep intentionally it didn't work. tricky, tricky.
i was to say i have never seen a white flowered passiflora before but that besides that it looked like p. caerulea but there are sooo many species...
perhaps the 'constance eliott'...
around here their flowers are red or blue...

Smoking passion flower blooms is very nice. especially while already under the influence of something sensative to maoi's. Passion flower is very easy to obtain from nurseries. Walmart sells them but they are overpriced. They are also kind of hard to grow from seed, but 1' plants go for about $8 around here.

Wow thank you both!

Yes, by the descriptions seems like the constance elliot one.
The fruit is small, 1,5 inches max. It is edible but not very tasty or juicy like the purple variety.

About the MG, i'm very glad to know that. These plants grow all around here and i never imagined they had LSA till i seen some pics of the morning glories .
Will definitely look closer for seeds.

:sun:
