Id rather, instead of telling him to go off and read tons of information that might mislead him if he read's the wrong info, to just plain and simply say, DON'T EAT THEM !

Are you looking to find edible mushrooms? or psylocybin ?
By the sounds of it, you would be better off going to the local market and buying some button mushrooms to eat, than go looking around the garden, because 90% of most of the garden shrooms you will find are indeed "poisous" ... if your hunting for psylocybin, then make sure you know what the hell your looking for, because you could very well end up in the hospital.

noone will beable to identify the description you gave, but...they/it does sound like it could be a "poisous" species..
becareful..and dont eat anything you find, ANYTHING untill you can be completely sure that it won't harm you.

Your description is pretty vague. At a wild guess they sound like Agaricus. The genus Agaricus includes both edible and poisonous species. We need a better description to have a chance of determining which you might have.

On the positive side, I'm not aware of anybody ever dying from eating a poisonous Agaricus. That's not to say you might not get sick enough that you would wish you could die so you'd stop feeling that bad.

Happy mushrooming!
