Can Lysol be substituted?
    #3005272 - 08/14/04 09:28 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

I heard lysol works good to disinfect the inside of a terrarium, so I ran down to the store to find they didn't have any. The lady there talked me into buying some bathroom cleaner/disinfectant spray and said it would be just as good as lysol. It says it prevents mold and mildew, but I'm not sure if I should use it.

Active Ingredient
Sodium Salt of O-Phenylphenol...................(0.31%)
Inert Ingredients...............................(99.69%)
(Includes Detergents, Cleaners, Chelating Agent, Fragrance & Propellent)Contains no phosphorous compunds or fluorocarbins

Would this cleaner be safe in disenfecting my terrarium? This is my first time cultivating. If not, I'll just go downtown and see if I can lysol.

Actually lysol wouldn't even be good to disinfect your terrarium, seeing as how it's a anti-fungal and everything... it's recommended to use it, but not leave it in there, what I recommend you do is boil a rag in water, spray your bathroom cleaner crap all in there and around, and then wipe out your terrarium with the boiled rag... you can add a capful of h202 to the boiled water solution for good measure, hope this helps =}

I think that should be just fine as long as you let it dry completely before you place anything in it... if you question it go over the terrarium with alcohol/bleach water 1 part bleach to 10 parts water... and viola SANITATION AT ITS BEST!!! lol..

Clean with a mix of 1 part H2O2 and 9 parts H2O. Just spray it in there and wipe it out.

ya Lysol great, but it does kill mushrooms, which is why I wipe stuff down and everything. I lost 10 cakes one time... by spraying lysol like a lysol freak

Never freak with the Lysol.......but as a good sterilizer........it's the shinizzle.......but only in a prep sense........dont spray Martha.........never trust the "lady at the store"

hell, one time the power was out in my county(for 4 hours)......and "the old dude at the store" convinced me to buy extra beer and ice.........3 cases and 50 lbs of ice........the power was on!

1. Where can i find Iodine?
2. When you mention H202, do you mean a solution which when bought is 3% h202 by volume, or is there Pure H202 and THEN i mix it 1:10.
3.Where can i find iodine?

4. Why is my response box so frickin small, i went home, brought my computer, came back and plugged it in, and now the box i'm typing this in is smaller than "This in is smaller". that sentence literally went to the next line. How annoying.

1&3. Pharmacy
2. 3% diluted works fine
4.
fatal eclispe Lysol must be in contact for 20sec. to do any good (fact) My suggestion bleach/water works the best for disinfecting surfaces, Lysol works awesome for disinfecting the air (scrubbing the air of contams). GL bro

Hell I used tilex bathroom cleaner on the Martha out in the driveway and rinsed it out real good. Made the thing look like new, nothing bad seems to grow on the sides.
You can use lysol to clean the air but it isn't that good in fact that is on the can somewhere. Lysol is a surface cleaner. To clean the air you want Oust or Nutri-Air(made by lysol). Nutri -Air is new and works great like I just put it's made by lysol for those of you who are into their products (me being one of you I love their stuff).

I think lysol came up with Nutri - Air cause Oust was naming lysol by name in the commerical.

Lysol actually isn't that great of a surface disinfectant tests have proven bleach/h2o to be much more effective. Lysol will scrub the air very well because of it fine atomization Oust works even better at disinfecting the air but here were talking scrubbing the air just like the commercial mushroom industries Aero-disinfector which works by asperating sterile oil, a cloud of highly viscous droplets is created. As the droplets desend they trap airborne contaminant particles. This technique uses triethylene glycol that is vaporized through a heated wick. Triethylene glycol leave little or no noticable film layer. FYI

Well, I use this:
- 20 parts destilled water
- 10 parts alcohol
- 5 parts peroxide (3%)
- 1 part iodine

I use this solution to clean my lab and it works well
